My First Ever Blogpost, Welcome to The New New Yorker Blog!

Well, hello there! And welcome to The New New Yorker Blog!

I’m so glad you popped by to have a read, thank you! This is totally new for me, so I’m feeling a weird mix of excitement, trepidation and curiosity to see how this goes!

I guess I should start by explaining why on earth I’ve decided to start a blog right now! There are two main reasons really:

1) I’ve always loved writing and in some ways find it far easier to share my thoughts on paper than I do in real life, and…

2) I find myself in the unbelievable but most amazing phase of my life, as I’m shortly moving from London to New York City! So I thought a blog would be a fun way to keep in touch with family and friends in the UK and hopefully keep them entertained with stories of how I’m getting along with my new life Stateside!

I was that kid at school that loved getting homework and would happily spend most of my summer holidays at the local library checking out as many books as they would let me! I used to tell anyone that would listen that one day I would be a journalist or an author.

Like many others, my childhood ambition didn’t quite turn into reality and instead of becoming a hard hitting journo, I now spend my days in a large, global, corporate organisation in a specialist human resources (talent development) role – though strangely enough working with a bunch of journalists. Luckily I’ve found a job I adore (and no, I promise I’m not just saying that because I work in human resources!) and recently got the opportunity of a lifetime to move to New York! And in a funny way that opportunity prompted me to start thinking about my former passions and how I could reignite them.

And so, the idea of The New New Yorker Blog was born!

I’m hoping The New New Yorker Blog becomes the place where I start to document my experiences of uprooting my life in London and finding my feet in New York. I hope it gives you a sense of what making a move overseas is really like, the good, the bad and the ugly. And I really hope you get to discover and fall in love with New York with me as it starts to become my home! I would love to hear about your New York tips or favourite spots too, so please share them with me! I’m a total foodie and love to travel as much as I can, so I’m sure you’ll also see some restaurant finds, favourite recipes and travel plans thrown in too!

I’m excited, let’s do this!
